We are the oldest children in Key Stage 1. We love learning and always follow our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Aspiration & Community.

This class page will give you all of the information you need for the Summer Term.

The class teacher in 2 Beech is Mrs Venter.

We are also supported by Miss Baillie in the mornings.
Important Information
Take a look at our weekly timetable and see what we get up to during our time in school.
P.E. will be on Monday and Friday.
On this day, children can come to school in their PE kits for the whole day.
Please ensure your child has the following PE kit
- Plain white T- shirt or polo shirt
- Plain black shorts (on warm days)
- Plain black track-suit bottoms (on colder days)
- Trainers or pumps.
On PE day, children need to pack a spare jumper/ hoody for colder days or in case the weather becomes colder throughout the day.
White PE T-shirts with the Orchard Logo are available to order.

What We’re Learning:

Maths
Get ready for an action-packed term as our Year 2 mathematicians dive into a world of numbers, shapes, and problem-solving. This term is all about building confidence and applying our skills to the world around us.
What We’re Learning:
Place Value: We will be developing our understanding of numbers by recognising, comparing and ordering them, helping children build strong number sense.
Four Operations: Pupils will practise addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, applying these skills to problem‑solving and real‑life situations.
Fractions: We’ll be learning to find and recognise simple fractions, such as halves and quarters, of shapes and quantities.
Statistics: Children will explore how to collect, present and interpret data using simple charts and graphs.
Time: We will learn how to tell the time, sequence events and use time vocabulary confidently in everyday contexts.

Science
Our young scientists will be busy exploring the world around them this term. We will investigate living things and the places they live, developing curiosity about animals, plants and their habitats. Through observing, questioning and discussing similarities and differences, children will begin to understand how living things are suited to different environments, including hot and cold climates.What We’re Learning:
Learn that different animals live in different habitats and explain why habitats meet animals’ needs
Explore how different plants live in different habitats
Investigate microhabitats and identify the animals that live within them
Learn about simple food chains and how animals depend on plants and other animals for food
Revisit Animals including Humans, focusing on:
The importance of exercise and hygiene
Understanding a balanced diet and different food groups
Geography
Our young geographers will be exploring the world beyond their immediate surroundings this term. We will investigate hot and cold places around the world, developing an understanding of how climate affects landscapes, animals and people’s lives. Through discussion, maps and comparisons, children will begin to recognise similarities and differences between places and learn how locations around the world are connected.
What We’re Learning:
Identify and locate hot and cold areas of the world using maps and globes
Learn about the physical and human features of hot and cold places
Compare a hot place and a cold place, including climate, animals and daily life
Use simple geographical vocabulary to describe places
Understand how people adapt to living in different climates
History
Our young historians will be learning about Africa past and present, discovering how the continent has changed over time. We will explore important people, places and events, helping children develop an understanding of history beyond their own lives and recognise how the past helps to shape the world we live in today.
What We’re Learning:
Learn about Mansa Musa and why he is remembered as an important historical figure
Explore the Benin Empire, finding out what life was like and why it was significant
Compare Africa then and now, identifying similarities and differences over time
Learn about modern African leaders, including Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama, and understand why they are important
Develop historical skills by asking questions, using pictures and stories, and talking about changes over time
