In phonics this half term, we will be recapping previous phases before moving on to Phase 5. We will be identifying digraphs and trigraphs and segmenting and blending these to create words. We will be 'quick reading' tricky words such as 'said' and 'were'. We will be applying all these skills to reading and writing.

In English, we will be reading and discussing the book 'Pirates Love Underpants' by Claire Freedman. This book is bright, colourful and enticing! We will be working on basic skills, such as punctuating sentences, using different types of sentences, describing characters/settings and developing our handwriting skills.
In Maths, we will be exploring 'Place Value'. We will be first of all, looking at numbers to 20, ensuring we can read, order and write these numbers. We will use concrete equipment and represent these numbers using pictorial methods.
In Science, we will be looking at 'Our Local Environment'. We will be investigating habitats and the basic needs of humans and animals. We will be naming a range of animals and plants/trees. We will be looking at how animals and humans use plants for food and how they obtain it. As well as this, we will be using our scientific skills to observe plants, identifying and classifying as well as gathering and recording data.
Planning coming soon!
In Geography, we will be 'Looking After Our Environment' with a focus on 'People and Their Communities'. We will be looking at the United Kingdom and the different features it has to offer, both human and physical. We will also investigate other countries and their continents; looking at how people live, the jobs they have and landmarks built.
Art and Design
In Art and DT, we will be creating bird feeders to suit the animals in our local environment. We will investigate which food animals prefer and then use this as our basis. We will draw, paint and observe different birds in our environment.
