Focus Books

In English, we will be listening to and learning about stories with a growth theme, focussing on lifecycles of plants.  We will be looking at the structure of stories, using story mapping and sequencing activities to identify the beginning, middle and end.  We will also be looking at a non-fiction text, to discover the difference from a fiction text.  We will be using the Jane Considine approach to encourage brave writing and provide exposure to rich vocabulary.

Phonics

We will be continuing to learn the phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs and focusing more on reading and spelling words with these phonemes and reading and writing captions and sentences.

We will also be continuing to practise using the phase 2 phonemes and tricky words and consolidating on these skills.

The following songs will help with learning tricky words.

Mathematics

  • We will then move onto the introduction of 9 & 10, where we will be representing, ordering and looking at the composition of these numbers.
  • We will practise counting back from 10 before moving on to number bonds within 10.

The 'Numberblocks' videos on YouTube or iPlayer are a great way to help consolidate your child's knowledge of numbers.
