IIn English, we will be listening to and learning about stories with a travel theme, focussing on modes of transport and journeys.  We will be looking at the structure of stories, using story mapping, drama and sequencing activities to identify the beginning, middle and end.  We will also be looking at our local area to identify local landmarks to create maps and also, links to historical modes of travel.  We will be using the Jane Considine approach to encourage brave writing and provide exposure to rich vocabulary.

Phonics

This half term we will introducing a phonics scheme called Read, Write, Inc.  More information to follow.

We will be continuing to learn the phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs and focusing more on reading and spelling words with these phonemes and reading and writing captions and sentences.

We will also be continuing to practise using the phase 2 phonemes and tricky words and consolidating on these skills.

The 'Numberblocks' videos on YouTube or iPlayer are a great way to help consolidate your child's knowledge of numbers.

We will also be practising counting beyond 20 and crossing the tens barrier by knowing what comes next after 29,39,49 etc. This song is a fun way to support counting to high numbers.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We have a weekly Jigsaw lesson to help us talk about our emotions and to learn mindfulness.

This half term our topic is Changing Me.

Our Jigsaw character is Jigsaw Jenie.

Nursery Rhymes

We are focussing on the following nursery rhymes, please practise these with your child at home.

Religious Education

In RE we will be exploring what makes a special place.  We will begin by looking at homes that we know and other homes around the world, to see what is the same and what is different.  Then we will look at special places within our homes and why they are special.  This will lead us onto Houses of Worship and the special places within them.  The religions we will be focussing on this half term will be Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

 Phonics

In Reception, children are taught phase two phonics. Children begin by naming letter sounds before learning to blend to read and segmenting to spell. Please see the video below of our academy's most recent phonics workshop for parents which explains how your child is taught and ways in which to support at home.
