Living with abuse can leave parents feeling fearful, isolated, and exhausted, which may make everyday tasks like maintaining routines, offering emotional support, or making decisions for their children feel overwhelming.
Many parents and carers experience guilt or shame, particularly when they believe the abuse has affected their children, even though the responsibility lies solely with the perpetrator.
Over time, the stress and trauma of abuse can undermine a parent’s mental health, limiting their sense of safety and control, while also shaping how they relate to their children.
With the right support, however, parents and carers can begin to recover, rebuild stability, and strengthen their ability to nurture and protect their children.
At Orchard Academy, our safeguarding team and wider staff are here to support you when the time is ready. We can support with getting in touch with services for support, but most of all being a listening ear to help the difficult days disappear.
