During Gardening Group we not only spend time tidying and learning about the environment we learn about different foods, growing and nurturing. Using our senses we have been looking at different vegetables, discovering what they taste, smell and feel like. Planting seeds and learning about what they need to grow has helped teach the children about responsibility. We are looking forward to many more hours of planning, planting, growing and building some great outdoor spaces so we can fulfil our outdoor learning potential.
It provides experiences outside the classroom which means that children can acquire new skills and embark on a unique, diverse learning experience. Showing a different side to their personalities, they are able to grow in self-esteem and confidence whilst learning about their environment and having fun! It promotes creativity and imagination and allows children to interact with their surroundings as well as offering different stimulation. Spending time outdoors is great for mental as well as physical well –being!
There is a whole world to discover outdoors and nature creates an incomparable sense of wonder for children unlikely to be found elsewhere. They become inquisitive about the earth and the world they live in and this leads to a road of learning that is endless. Spending time in and learning about natural surroundings enriches their lives and their experiences.
They love it!
