Home Learning Autumn 2026
At Orchard Primary Academy, we believe that home learning can be a valuable way for children to practise and embed the knowledge and skills they have been learning in school. Regular reading, number fluency activities and other curriculum-linked tasks can all help to strengthen academic achievement and build confidence.
However, we would like to reassure parents that home learning is not mandatory, and there are no sanctions or consequences for children who do not complete it. We recognise that every family has different commitments and circumstances, and we want our approach to remain supportive and flexible.
Whilst optional, home learning offers a number of benefits. It provides children with additional opportunities to practise key skills, supports academic progress, and helps to develop positive learning habits. It also strengthens the partnership between home and school by giving parents and carers a chance to engage with and share in their child's learning journey.
Please see below an overview of weekly home learning for each key stage:
Your child’s usernames and passwords for The Oxford Reading Buddy Platform and Timetable Rockstars will be sent home in their new reading record books. You can also access these from your child’s class teacher.
To support children bringing their home learning resources into school safely and easily, we have invested in providing every child in school with a FREE green home learning bag.
Please ensure you put your child’s name in them. You are welcome to have these personalised or add the academy logo if you wish to.
