PSHE - Jigsaw

This week, we are continuing with our three-week long unit on planning, designing and creating a garden for someone who needs to overcome challenges on a daily basis. We are now on to the designing part of our project – this includes a first-draft sketch of what you would like your garden to look like. Remember you need to use your plans from last week and remember who you are creating your garden for – you need to make sure the garden is tailored to their specific needs! You also need to ensure you are thinking about your budget and making sure you do not go over it! You can draw your first-draft garden in your Home Learning books. Please also keep an account of your budget so we can all see how you are managing the money! Tweet us your first-draft garden designs – I am super excited to see these!

Topic - History

All about sources! Can you remember what primary sources and secondary sources are? A primary source is a piece of evidence created at the time an event took place – it could be a diary entry, a painting, a photograph taken. A secondary source is something that was created after the event took place, usually by someone who was not there. Secondary sources use primary sources to help them gather information! Examples of secondary sources are textbooks, TV documentaries, encyclopaedias etc.

Today we are going to be creating our very own primary source based on the discovery of Tutankhamun, an ancient Egyptian pharaoh whose tomb was only discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter! Read the fact-file on Howard Carter, and then create your own primary source about the discovery. It could be a diary entry, a radio broadcast, a painting of what he might have seen! Remember, a primary source was written at the time – think about what tense you will need to use!

There are some handy websites below if you’d like to learn a bit more about King Tutankhamun – I’ll reward Dojos for anyone who can Tweet me an interesting fact they learn about him!

Science

This week and next week we would like you to use what you have learnt to plan and create a magnetic board game. We know that you might not have magnets at home, that's fine, you can still design and make your games without these.

This week is all about planning. Look at these pictures for ideas and then there is a planning template that you could use to help you.

Design and label your magnetic game.

How does your game use magnetic forces to attract materials?

This week we are learning about Verb stems and endings. These are very similar to English, we just call them root words and suffixes. Look at these slides to explain the work and then have a go at finding them yourself on the worksheet.

Create your own 5 Pillars of Islam designs. You could bubble write the different pillars, you could draw pictures to represent each pillar, however you want to set this out it is up to you.

Here's an idea you could use to help you.

Art

Banksy is a British street and graffiti artist. He likes to remain anonymous and not let people know his true identity. He often draws in high visibility public places such as on buildings or train stations. His paintings are often about politics, war and other important topics.

Banksy has recently done a piece called the Game Changer to pay his tributes to the NHS in these times.

Taking inspiration from this piece of art, this week your challenge is to create your own superhero. What does it look like? What powers does it have? What is its day job?
Be as creative as you want.
